Actually, it won't work. I don't think you'll even be able to install LOD on top of cracked Diablo II classic. And even if that's possible, I'm pretty sure battle.net performs a double CD key check, so you need to have a valid CD key both for the original and for the expansion.

The only time that they'll ask for the original cd-key is if your account gets hacked, and you want to get it back. They'll ask for the account, the original d2 cd key, and then they'll eventually give you a new pass for it! Happened to me about 3 times.
